Pre-Reflection - Deborah Kanfer

Kanfer’s delicate portraits in Pre-Reflection are an extension of her previous collection Memento Mori, in their use of found negatives to capture and preserve memory.In Pre-Reflection Kanfer attempts to contextualize the “pose” and in so doing capture the pre-reflective stance – the body as object prior to the awareness of the body as a thinking or reflective subject. Ultimately, Kanfer is attempting to tamper with history in the ongoing human struggle against transience.
