Walter Niedermayr
Galerie Nordenhake is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Italian artist Walter Niedermayr in its new space at Lindenstrasse 34. Widely recognized for his large-scale, subdued photographs of alpine landscapes, Niedermayr will exhibit works from the ongoing series Alpine Landscapes alongside photographs from his recent series Bildraum (Image-space). For this project he has been following the well-known Japanese architecture firm SANAA, founded in 1995 in Tokyo by the architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishiwaza, for the past six years. JOHN COPLANS A LEGACY
Galerie Nordenhake is very pleased to present an exhibition by the artist John Coplans. In collaboration with the John Coplans Trust, the show presents works taken between 1984 and 2002. Alongside the current exhibition, Galerie Nordenhake and Amanda Means of the John Coplans Trust have organized a Reading Room in the gallery space.
John Coplans started his series of self-portraits in 1984, at the age of 64. They consist of black and white photographs of his naked, aging body against a neutral white background. ESKO MÄNNIKKÖ "HARMONY SISTERS"
In his exhibition "Harmony Sisters" Finish artist Esko Männikkö turns his camera to different animals. Horses, cows, chickens, and dogs are glimpsed more than seen in intimate close-ups. The works are almost abstract but an occasional eye, a wet muzzle, or a swirl of fur give the animals away.
His earlier photographic portraits of bachelors living in the north of his native Finland quickly became epitomes of a stereotyped version of loneliness and self-reliance in the 'Far North'.
