Initials L.G. features portraits and rare images of the iconic French singer and artist Serge Gainsbourg from photographers Helmut Newton, William Klein, Patrick de Spiegelaere, Tony Frank, and other noted artists.

The exhibit coincides with the twentieth anniversary of Gainsbourg’s untimely death in March 1991. Photographer Denis Darzacq’s images presented in The Fall become a metaphor for youth in precarious stability, playing a game of equilibrium and provocation. Featuring the bodies of young hip-hop, capoeira and contemporary dancers in weightless positions, The Fall opposes the elasticity of these bodies to the raw material of architecture. An additional 29 short videos of young suburbanites will propel the audience into the environment of youth culture.

The name Peter Knapp instantly brings to mind the glossy pages of Elle magazine, as the publication’s legendary Artistic Director from 1960 to 1964 and then again from 1974 to 1978. For the past decade, French photographer Sarah Caron has traveled the world, working both in journalism and on longform projects. Her work has taken her to many continents, with assignments in Thailand, Cuba, Burma, and Mexico. In 2006, Caron received a Getty Images Grant for Editorial Photography to complete The Al-Aqsa Martyr Brigades– The Balata Sentinels, a series exploring the martyrdom culture in Palestine. Her work has been published in many international publications, including Le Monde, Le Figaro, The New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, and Elle.
