Aeroplastics Contemporary présente la première exposition monographique complète de la photographe iranienne Shadi Ghadirian. Révélée en 2001 avec les séries Qajar et Like Everyday, l'artiste n'a cessé depuis lors d'explorer la thématique du conflit entre tradition et modernité, et celle de la position de la femme dans une société dominée par des stéréotypes masculins. En filigrane transparaît toute l'histoire des rapports entre Orient et Occident, dans un contexte mondial qui voit l'Iran, tiraillé entre volonté de réformes et repli conservateur, tantôt placé au ban des nations, ou au contraire considéré comme un incontournable partenaire économique et politique. Aeroplastics Contemporary presents the first complete monographic exhibition of the Iranian photographer Shadi Ghadirian. Coming to wide public attention in 2001 with the series Qajar and Like Everyday, the artist has ever continued to explore the theme of conflict between tradition and modernity, and that of the position of women in a society dominated by male stereotypes. Showing just beneath the surface appears the whole saga of the relationship between Orient and Occident, set within a world context that sees Iran, pulled between the will to reform and conservative retrenchment, at times placed beyond the pale, at others considered as an unavoidably essential economic and political partner
