Madison is pleased to announce an exhibition of photographs from the famous Isle of Man portfolio. The exhibition will comprise sixteen 43 x 52.5cm prints photographs - each printed, signed and dated by Killip. This is the first time that prints of the Isle of Man work has beenavailable at this size – and the first time that some of the images have been available at all.
Chris Killip is widely regarded as one of the most influential British photographers. Winner of numerous awards including the prestigious Henri Cartier-Bresson Award, his work is held in the permanent collections of major museums around the world, including: the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Folkwang Museum, Essen; Bibliotheque National, Paris; and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
He is the author of five books: The Isle of Man and In Flagrante, with texts by John Berger; Chris Killip 55, text by Gerry Badger; Pirelli Work, with text by
Clive Dilnot; and Here Comes Everybody, a book on his Irish photographs, which will be published by Thames & Hudson in May. Errata Editions, New York, has just published a facsimile study of In Flagrante, as part of their launch series on four of the world’s most influential photography books.
During 2008, Killip’s photographs were exhibited at: Tate Modern, London; Haust der Kunst, Munich; Andalucía Contemporary Art Center, Seville; and Rose Gallery, Santa Monica. He has lived in the USA since 1991, where he is a Professor of Visual Studies at Harvard University.
Here Comes Everybody, a new book of Killip’s Irish photographs, will be published by Thames and Hudson in April, and launched at Madison on 23 April.
