Houston Center for Photography announces Magnum Photos Moments In Time —on view February 21 — March 6, 2008, in conjunction with FOTOFEST2008, with an opening reception on February 21 from 6 — 8pm. Magnum Photos, the world´s most prestigious photographers´ cooperative and watch-making house, Baume & Mercier pair up to present this unique exhibition of Magnum´s most iconic photographs spanning six decades.
Moments In Time consists of thirty images embodying the historical importance of Magnum Photos as a documenter of history. Mark Lubell, Director, states "Magnum photographers are visual authors, and this exhibit represents 60 years of uncompromising storytelling."
Baume & Mercier and Magnum Photos chose to hold this exhibition during FotoFest to commend the festival´s 25th anniversary as one of the leaders of photography and photo-related art in the United States. "Baume & Mercier is promoting quality photography in many parts of the world, and it is a pleasure for FotoFest to share this celebration with Baume & Mercier and Magnum Photos as we collectively support the role photography plays in the art world," commented Wendy Watriss, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of FotoFest.
Photography confirms itself as an accessible art form for all — contemporary and constantly evolving, a trait shared by Baume & Mercier as a watchmaker in step with the times. "For a number of years, Baume & Mercier has developed a close link between watchmaking and photography, as Baume & Mercier believes both art forms share the search for real and unforgettable moments that make the life of each and every one of us unique," said Michel Nieto, Baume & Mercier Chief Executive Officer.

At the same time, a certain serenity hovers over her pictures. In them, nature seems entirely focused on itself. One immediately notices that human beings are absent. The allure of colors and shapes...
