These annual Awards are open to artists who work with the medium of photography. Applicants must be resident in the UK and have graduated from a visual arts degree course in the UK between January 2004 and September 2007. There is no age limit. Five winners will each receive an award of £2,500, an exhibition at Jerwood Space in London, and publication in Portfolio Magazine. The Jerwood Charitable Foundation is dedicated to excellence and to supporting talented artists with the difficult step into professional life. Having made the commitment to training as an artist, the period immediately after art college can be extremely difficult. The aim of this initiative is to give opportunities to five promising photographers that will help establish them in their careers.Previous winners of the Jerwood Photography Awards are: Veronica Bailey, Polly Braden, Daniel Gustav Cramer, Emma Hamilton, Zoe Hatziyannaki, Travis Hodges, Sarah Lynch, Nina Mangalanayagam, Edgar Martins, Peter Oetzman, Richard Page, Oliver Parker, Sarah Pickering, Léonie Purchas, Luke Stephenson, Indre Serpytyte, Danny Treacy, Naglaa Walker, Paul Winch-Furness.The Awards, which were established in 2003, comprise three elements: five winners will each receive Awards of £2,500, their workwill be exhibited in a group exhibition at Jerwood Space in London in November 2007, followed by a tour, and will be published in the November issue of Portfolio Magazine. The Jerwood Photography Awards are part of the Jerwood Visual Arts series. The selection will take place in September 2007 and the winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Jerwood Space in London, on 8 November 2007. The 2007 Selectors are: Martin Barnes Curator, Photographs Victoria & Albert Museum, London Gloria Chalmers Editor, Portfolio Magazine Gayle Chong Kwan Visual Artist John Davies Photographer/Artist Anne McNeill Director, Impressions Gallery, Bradford Step 1 Registration • Complete the attached registration form and send it with a registration fee of £20 made payable to Portfolio. • All applicants will receive a year's subscription to Portfolio Magazine. • The deadline for registration is 13 August 2007. Step 2 Submission • Having registered, you will be sent an entry form and acknowledgement of your registration fee. • Artists must submit a minimum of six and a maximum of ten unmounted photographic or inkjet prints which do not exceed size 40 x 30 cm (16 x 12 inches), and which were completed since January 2004. Any other visual material, such as slides, transparencies, discs or CDs will be ineligible. • Professional commissions are not eligible. • Submissions must be accompanied by a single page of A4, containing a short CV and artist's statement about the series of photographic prints submitted. • Send your photographic prints, entry form, CV/artist's statement, and sufficient return postage, to Portfolio, 43 Candlemaker Row, Edinburgh EH1 2QB, to arrive no later than 31 August 2007.
