g Guy Veloso's (Brazil, 1969) photographs investigate the frenetic search for the sacred, through pictures taken in varied religious manifestations in the deepest countryside of Brazil. The project exposes the tenuous (and the always mutant) line between religion and fanaticism in Brazil. It shows the people's search for the sacred and their great need to externalize their faith-and as if it were not enough "to please" the saints, their need to display to society their belief and devotion. "Between Faith and Fever: Portraits" is an artistic and anthropological work; an "archeology of images" of a forgotten nation. According to the photographer, "the search for a mystical identity that can lead us, and feed us with its symbols". Rubens Fernandes Junior, a professor at FAAP-SP, and also an specialized photography curator refers to Guy Veloso's work: "His images surprise us for being non-sense, for being surreal, for the complete dissonancy between the real world and the other world". The photographer and curator Walter Firmo reveals: "Veloso's art consists in relaying feverish signs of a bunch of people enchanted by faith. The work is a document of his untiring and humanistic soul in cheering us into this faith militancy". Graduated in Law (1991), Guy Benchimol de Veloso has been a photographer since 1989. His pieces are in: the University of Essex Collection of Latin American art, Colchester-England; The Portuguese Center of photography, Porto-Portugal; Itau Cultural Database, São Paulo-Brazil; The Joaquim Paiva Collection, Brasília-Brazil among other places. In 2005 they integrated the book "Visual History - Photography in Brazil, A View from the Origins to the Contemporary", by Angela Magalhães and Nadja Peregrino. The project for this exhibition - which lasted for 8 years - has counted on extensive research, systematic visitations to the investigated places (7 States in the North and Northeast Brazil) in specific dates (parties, processions etc.), codification of the photographs in time and space, besides testimonies recorded in video tapes (more than 80 hours) . A great opportunity to know this great melting pot of symbols called Brazil.See more at: Consulter le lien

Simone Nieweg is a photographer of gardens and landscapes. Her work, as it has manifested itself over the past thirty years, knows no other interest. The allure of colors and shapes...
