The gallery is proud to present a selection of photographs from Jehsong Baak's latest series “L'et Ailleurs (Here & Elsewhere)” in our project room.Born in 1967 in Junju, South Korea, he is an American artist who lives and works in paris.
His work treats the transcendental visual experiences ingrained in everyday life.A record of the artist's wanderings in paris, rome, Amsterdam, Chicago, New York and elsewhere taken over the past seven years, they offer occasional glimpses to points beyond the visible and identifiable.
While grounded in the here and now, they nonetheless reveal the sleights of hand that open to more mystical realms.These snapshots by a sensitive and perpetual traveler separated from his birthplace andmuch of his family at a young age oftenconvey alienation or, conversely, a sens ofbelonging to a place.peopled by a network of friends, some of whom stand in as surrogate self-portraits of the artist, this gallery constitutes a creative constellation conceived in exile that mourns the loss of, but alsotranscends national identity.
Baak has been featured at Galerie Vu in paris, and at Stichting Noorderlicht in Groningen, Holland.His work is represented in several important collections in the united
States and Europe.
