g The gallery Camera Work presents in its showrooms in Berlin selected photographs of Nick Brandt from November 26th 2005 to January 7th 2006. Originally Brandt directed Music videos, but he now makes a living as a full time art photographer -"All that other stuff, that's in the past now". But it was actually his former career that introduced Brandt to the beauty of East-Africa, while directing the Grammy-nominated Michael Jackson Music video "Earth Song". "There's something about the animals and the landscapes of East Africa that is so mythical", Brand said, "The animals are so iconic. For years I've been trying to merge my visual creativity with my love of animals. And when I went to Africa and I saw these animals I realized there was a way to do it in a way nobody had ever done before." For example he shows a sitting lion watching the wide landscape and the African sky in the lowlands of the nature reserve Massai Mara in Kenia. The picture transports contemplation and relaxation, it shows that also wild animals can have human expressions. Actually Brand is not interested in photographing animals in other regions of the world or using his talent in any another area of photography. He makes clear that he considers himself a fine-art photographer and he wants to continue creating images similar to portraits. "There are numerous photographers who can capture these animals in action. I'm trying to capture the animals in just being, their personalities, their souls. I want to photograph them in the exact same way as if I was photographing a human being. Brand gets close to the animals but he says that they're used to human interaction because of the increasing tourism in the area. Sometimes he pursues chimpanzees or giraffes on foot or he stays in his Jeep waiting for the perfect shot."   Le "In/Out" de Catherine Lambermont

Simone Nieweg is a photographer of gardens and landscapes. Her work, as it has manifested itself over the past thirty years, knows no other interest. At the same time, a certain serenity hovers over her pictures. In them, nature seems entirely focused on itself. One immediately notices that human beings are absent. The allure of colors and shapes...
