1. Chronicle of a brilliant day
The motto this year was ‘Enjoy the Moment’. This was only revealed on the day of the competition to the hundreds of participants, who endured wind and rain to interpret topics such as ‘Laughing out Loud’, ‘Here and Now’ or ‘Refreshing’.

In a year where many people are concerned about the economic crisis and the future, the Berlin Fotomarathon seeks to inspire people to look for things that make today worth enjoying, to find them in Berlin and then to photograph them. Participants also did a great job at engaging with Berliners, asking them to be part of their photos, with inspiring and creative results.

About 350 participants, with friends and family as support teams, rose up to the challenge of defeating the rain to complete their series. At the end, one could see it in their faces: participants were exhausted, but at the same time excited to cross the finish line with their 24 photos.
 

2. The Exhibition: a photo-strip three times higher than the TV Tower
Over 1000 meters of photos will be exhibited next Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July at the annual Fotomarathon exhibition, at the near Hackescher Markt. Over 8,400 photographs, taken by 351 participants, captured on a summer’s day in Berlin, during the 12th Fotomarathon in Berlin on the 16th June.

Entry: 4€, reduced 3€. Participants have free entry with their start numbers -while helpers and other team members need to buy a ticket.

The award ceremony takes place on Saturday 7th July at 6pm. An independent Jury selects the best 10 series, and there are several other special prizes, as well as a people´s choice award.

You can see absolutely every one of the series that were created during the Fotomarathon day under the motto ‘Enjoy the Moment’. This year we are also presenting a completely new installation and design for the Fotomarathon exhibition.

Inspired by the theme, each participant portrayed things that make life worth living –from their own and diverse perspectives. There will be a colourful mix of impressions from Berlin city life, reflecting all the things that participants chose to enjoy.
 

3. Cocktails and souvenir photos for exhibition visitors
Our main partners, Campari and Panasonic, will be there to welcome the 2012 exhibition visitors.

On Saturday 7th July between 3pm and 8pm there will be a Campari bar at the exhibition. Campari will be offering traditional and new cocktails, as well as non-alcoholic drinks for all visitors.

Additionally, Panasonic will greet visitors with a stand showcasing their LUMIX Cameras. Visitors will also have the chance to have their picture taken at the stand, and to take the print back home as a souvenir of the exhibition.
 

4. What are the prizes?
An amazing selection of prizes await the lucky winners. The Fotomarathon sponsors have donated a total of over 7000€ to be distributed among the winners. There are also several special prizes: for special themes, as well as a people’s choice award.
 

5. The 2012 Jury
An independent Jury meets on 5. July to select the ten best photo series. The members of the Jury are: Michael Biedowicz, curator and chief picture editor at ZEIT magazine, Janus Døssing, 2011 winner of the Fotomarathon, Thomas Michalak, photographer and lecturer, Andrea Späth, Editor at PHOTOGRAPHIE Magazine, and Anne Schwalbe, photographer and author.
 

6. Listen up! What are people saying about the Berlin Fotomarathon?
What does the Fotomarathon mean to you? How was your experience? Would you recommend it?

During the exhibition we want the opportunity to collect some of your impressions on audio (and perhaps on video) to share them with present and future participants.

So don’t be shy, when one of our Fotomarathon team members approaches with a microphone or a telephone - share your views!
 

7. Zitty special prize: “Melting Away”
Congratulations to Julia Runge, the winner of the Zitty special prize. Additionally, Sarah Breithoff and Grit Linke were awarded the second and third place respectively. Congratulation to all three of them – the prize will be handed in at the exhibition.
