BORDERNOTES. Every issue of Border Crossings begins with an essay by editor Meeka Walsh. In this issue, Walsh looks at the shifting identities of self and other in Claude Cahun, whose work has recently been exhibited in a retrospective at Jeu de Paume in Paris, and tours to the Art Institute of Chicago and La Virreina Centre de la Imatge in Barcelona in 2011/2012.

INTERVIEWS. In a compelling interview with Robert Enright, British artist Gillian Wearing discusses masking the exterior to uncover internal truths, identifying the universal among the anonymous, and finding her own voice in the stories of strangers.

And Canadian photographer Susan Dobson articulates the uncertainties in her work, in the destabilizing suburban and retail spaces she photographs, and in the shifting of technologies and tenses—from darkroom to digital, taking a captured past into a technological future.

ARTICLES. Stephen Horne explores Lynne Cohen's photographed interiors, discovering in them the intriguing tension of "stage sets waiting for an action to begin."

Daniel Baird assays the continuum of self, as embodied, and expanded, by Suzy Lake in her experiments in self-portraiture.

And Lee Henderson follows the flux in Evan Lee's photoconceptual work and in his approach to new technologies: "Seen through his artwork, the changes to photography are all liberations."
