INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL OF PHOTOGRAPHY : THE PHOTOJOURNALISM IN ITALY 1945 – 2005

A Biennal “made in Italy” focuses, for the first time in a critical and organic way , the history of Italian photojournalism through a path made of 350 pictures signed by the most famous reporters, agencies and archives.
The curator Uliano Lucas will guide the visitors in a trip throughout last 50 years of Italian history, and tells about plotting between country social evolution, power centers, editorial field, following the devolpement of the mass media language and photography information related to the society chagements. Starting from the neo realism of post 2nd world war to phenomenon of “paparazzi”, from the success of the social reportage in the 60' rised from a new way to look at and tell, to the chronical photography in the years of terrorism and mafia crimes, from the anonymous agency pictures that cross all last years, as evidence of glamour and modern tales of a medium class that doesn't care about needs and realpulses of the country. The new styles and messages coming from pictures of 90's, related to re-organisation of information world within globalisedand technological post modern society, but also to the entry of photography, eventhe reportage one, in the field of Art and Collection.
A storyof images, about the choices made by press information directors. Do thepictures published, by Italian newspapers in these last 50 years, document the reality of Italy? What has the reporter shooted and what has the director choose to publish? What is the limit in their way to intend “making information”? How publishing demand has made depend or has modified the reporter work?
A story of press directors, intellectuals and reporters that have tried to break the wall of the power information world, and make a real journalism. The avanguarde experiences in graphic and photography by Pasquale Prunas at Le ore and Il Messaggero, Carlo Rizzi at l'Europeo and Epoca, Gianluigi Colin at Corriere della Sera magazine, or Corona at King and La Voce. The innovative choices related to the use of images by Gianluigi Melega at Europeo and Panorama, Nicola Cattedra at Tempo Illustrated and L'Ora, Nini Briglia at Epoca, Tommaso Giglio at Europeo, Paolo Pietroni at o Sette and Lo Specchio, Bragalia, first director for Le Vie Nuove magazine and finally Alberto Rochey at La Stampa.
Beside the show will be held a conference, lectures and didactic laboratories for student and teachers, organized by the Foundation Didactic Departement.
