Amongst the most powerful 20th Century images is Robert Capa's visceral photograph of an American soldier during the first wave of landings on Omaha Beach, 1944 (£2,000-3,000) and the stunning view of the earth, known as the 'Blue Marble', taken in all probability by Jack Schmitt on the final Apollo Mission in 1972 (£600-800). Other classic 20th century vintage photographs include works by Man Ray, Walker Evans, Berenice Abbott, Eugene Atget, Sally Mann and Margaret Bourke-White. The beginnings of British photography are encapsulated by Julia Margaret Cameron's Henry Taylor 1864 (£800-1,200), and can be followed through the photojournalism of Kurt Hutton, Thurston Hopkins, Grace Robertson, Bert Hardy and a surrealist image by the celebrated Bill Brandt, East Sussex Coast, 1957, (£3,000-5,000) leading up to contemporary photography by the likes of Martin Parr and Keith Arnatt. The sale also includes a small selection of ‘photobooks’ which contain two seminal works on London: Bill Brandt's A Night in London, 1938 (£2000-3000) and London, 1909 (£4,000 -6,000) by Alvin Langdon Coburn, plus The Book of Bread, 1903, (£600 -800) by Owen Simmons which features prominently in Parr and Badger's Photobook, and a signed facsimile edition of Ansel Adam's Taos Pueblo, 1930 (£800 -1200). Amongst the early highlights is one of the earliest instantaneous news photographs, a stereoscopic daguerreotype, The Reception of Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, taken at Crystal Palace by Philip Henry Delamotte in 1855 and which is estimated £9,000-12,000. Early travel photographs are sought after at the moment and Bloomsbury is offering examples by Emile Gsell (Cambodia), Francis Frith (Middle East and Europe), John Watt Beattie (Tasmania), and Robert Macpherson (Rome). Other images from the 19th century include an Orientalist study, ca.1858 by William Morris Grundy (£2,000-3,000) thought to have inspired similar studies by Roger Fenton and three rare Orientalist salt prints with applied watercolour (£600-800). A probably unique and eye catching early item, is the group of photographic studies for Sir Frank Brangwyn's British Empire Panels ca.1925 (£5,000-7,000).
