purpose is preparing its 10th issue, due for spring 2010.
It will be poetic, erotic and politic !
Ten portfolios will approach the ambiguous notion of DESIRE.
Nowadays, people are constantly researching and desiring a new object, a different person, a new situations… we seem to be wanting always more, something better than what we have got. In our societies, based on hyperconsumption, desires need immediate satisfaction and people become slaves of compulsive impulsions.
Therefore, not having desires can appear as utopia, as a way to achieve freedom and autonomy…
Is this so ?
From an other point of view desire can also be seen as a form of resistance to a culture based on using and immediately throwing-away. Desiring doesn’t mean wanting something immediately, transforming a person into an object. While desiring we learn how to wait, how to build a rich relationship with others.
Between wanting and desiring there is no real opposition. Impulses, sentiments, projections are territories with shifting boundaries ….
purpose’s next issue wants to question the complexity and the variety of our Desires.
