China International Press Photo Contest (the 6th CHIPP) is privileged to launch its 6th annual competition. Entries will be received from December 8 2009 to February 15 (by 12
PM Beijing Time) 2010. Participants could submit photos either through our online registration and uploading platform or by post to our Beijing office (see the address below). The judging will be held from March 21 to 25 2010 in Songjiang District, Shanghai.

MOTTO

The motto of the 6th. CHIPP is once again peace and development. The photos submitted should reflect the human achievements or the struggle for the peace and development in the world, showing harmony or conflicts, change or progress, and increasing understanding of life conditions, emotions, willpower and strength of man.


CATEGORIES & CATEGORY CODE


There are totally eight categories. Each category will be divided into singles and story sessions.

1. Daily Life (DL & DLS)
2. War & Disaster News (WDN & WDNS)
3. General News (GN & GNS)
4. Economy, Science & Technology News (ESTN & ESTNS)
5. Nature & Environment News (NEN & NENS)
6. Arts, Culture & Entertainment News (ACEN & ACENS)
7. Sports News (SN & SNS)
8. Portraits & People in the News (POPN & POPNS)

JUDGING STANDARDS

All entries must be:

authentic and embodies the Contest¡¯s theme of Peace and Development.
with strong visual impact and emotional moving power.
with accurate caption.
placed in the categories where it fits best.


ENTRY RULES

For entrants

1.      The Contest is open to everyone¡ªfreelance, contract photographers or agency, wire services, magazine, and newspaper staff photographers.

2.      For online submission To fill the entry form, all the required and detailed information about the photographer and his/her entries must be provided. Freelance photographers must provide certificates, official documents and registered numbers (approved by professional photographer groups) to show his/her professional status.

3. Please mark ¡°no commercial value¡± to avoid unnecessary fees or postponement at Customs when the entries are sent by post.

4.  Winning photos will be published on media upon the award announcement, and collected into the CHIPP Winners Online Gallery.

5.  CHIPP committee may use winning entries in the contest-related publications, exhibitions and other activities without offering any remuneration to the photographer(s) and/or copyright holder(s). But the entries will be credited to the related photographer(s) and/or the copyright holder(s).

6.  CHIPP committee may request the prize winners to submit reproduction quality materials for use in the CHIPP yearbook and exhibitions.

7.  Entrants should either be the copyright holder or have been authorized by the copyright holder(s) to enter the Contest. He/she will take legal responsibilities for any controversies over portrait rights or other cases in which a third party might file a lawsuit.

8.   Entries fail to meet the rules will be treated as ineligible.

9.   There is no entry fee for the Contest.

10.  The entry rules and the conditions in the entry form are legally binding.

For entries

1. Each participant is allowed to submit no more than 10 pieces of works. A photo story is regarded as ONE piece of work.

2. Single photos must have been taken and published in 2009.

3. Photo stories must have been completed or first published in 2009.

4. A photo story may contain no less than 2 and no more than 10 photos, each being clearly marked with category code and serial number.

5. Participants could either send entries via internet or by post. Digital or digitalized photos should be in JPG format with a minimum of 2MB and 1000 pixels.

6. Each entry should have a title and clear caption in either English or Chinese.

7. Photos with digital manipulation, double exposures and artistic effects are not accepted.  

8. Individual images as part of a photo story/portfolio are eligible for re-entering the singles contest in the same category, but an image is not allowed to enter two or more different categories at the same time. An image entering both singles and photo stories will be counted as two entries.

9. Participant¡¯s personal data and entry-related information must not appear on the entries. Category codes and serial numbers should be clearly marked. Each entry will be registered and recoded by CHIPP organizing committee.

10. Information about when and where the entries are taken is required for each entry.

11. Judging results by the jury is the final decision. The CHIPP organizing committee will not accept any appeals.

12. Prize-winning works against entry rules will be disqualified from the contest and announced publicly after verification. Related works will be removed from the CHIPP website as well as from potential exhibitions.


PRIZES & AWARDS

Prizes

1.One gold, one silver, one bronze prize and two awards of excellence will be selected in each of the 8 categories - for both singles and photo stories.

2. Photo of the Year will be selected from all of the gold-prize -winning photos.

3. All awards except for the awards of excellence are allowed to be vacant.

Awards

A trophy, a certificate, a pre-tax cash prize of RMB 100,000 (about 1500 US dollars) and a round-trip flight ticket to Shanghai is presented to the winner of the Photo of the Year.

A trophy, a certificate, a pre-tax cash prize of RMB 10,000 and a round-trip flight ticket to Shanghai is presented to the 16 gold winners.

A trophy and a certificate are presented to silver and bronze-prize winners.

 A certificate is presented to the winners of the Award of Excellence.

Winning entries will be included into the CHIPP yearbook. The CHIPP Organizing Committee will present one copy of the yearbook to every prize winner.

WINNER NOTIFICATION

Judging will take place in late March, 2010 in Shanghai. Winners will be announced at a press conference and posted at www.chipp.cn. All winners will be contacted after the results have been announced.


DEADLINE

February 15 2010 (by 12pm Beijing Time) is the deadline for all entries. Entries submitted later than the deadline will not be accepted.
