Luciana Brito Galeria is proud to invite you to Caio Reisewitz's exhibition Maracutaia presented by Fundación Pedro Barrié de la Maza and Fundación Rosón Arte Contemporáneo (RAC) in Vigo and Pontevedra, Spain. This is the most complete show to date of works by this Brazilian artist.

Caio Reisewitz is one of the most significant figures in photography today. Chosen to represent Brazil at the 51st Venice Biennial, he has recently taken part in other major events such as the Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires Biennials.

Maracutaia brings together over 40 photographs taken by the artist since 2002. The images chosen focus on the relationship between man and the landscape and constitute a reflection on the deterioration of natural spaces and how the pace at which modern society is advancing and changing leaves no room for the presence of nature in this process. The same concern for the environment underpins the parallel programme of educational activities and the book on Caio Reisewitz's career.

On display in the Fundación Pedro Barrié de la Maza premises in Vigo are over 30 works that offer an insight into the evolution this Brazilian artist and the themes he has pursued from 2002 up to the photomontages he has recently produced in 2009. For its part, the Fundación Rosón Arte Contemporáneo (RAC) in Pontevedra is showing ten works specifically produced for this exhibition project within the framework of its artist-in-residence programme (a habitual practice at the Fundación RAC), which focus strictly on the Galician landscape.

The exhibition is accompanied by the publication of a rigorous book of the same name which not only includes all the works on display but also the most significant pieces in the whole of the artist's output and an essay by art critic David Barro, the exhibition's curator. This book is the result of the Foundation's interest in helping the best in modern photography to reach as wide an audience as possible.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of free educational activities for the general public (guided tours), workshops for all the family at weekends and workshops for school parties from Monday to Friday. In Pontevedra, the Fundación Rac offers guided tours for groups, which must be booked in advance. Further information and bookings on: Fundación Barrié (+34) 981 110220; Fundación Rac (+34) 637 717172.

Simone Nieweg is a photographer of gardens and landscapes. Her work, as it has manifested itself over the past thirty years, knows no other interest. At the same time, a certain serenity hovers over her pictures. In them, nature seems entirely focused on itself. One immediately notices that human beings are absent. The allure of colors and shapes...
