Montreal, September 21, 2009 - Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal welcomes the public to attend the international colloquium The Spaces of the Image, which will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm at the Paul-Desmarais Theatre of the Canadian Centre for Architecture.
The colloquium The Spaces of the Image will examine scenographic procedures and related issues in the fields of photography and new media. The participants will address means of projection and the spatial arrangements that have been envisioned for contemporary practices.
This international colloquium will bring together artists, art historians, critics and exhibition curators. With the participation of: NATHALIE BOULOUCH (France), Professor of History of Contemporary Art and Photography, Rennes 2 Haute-Bretagne University; ROBERT BURLEY (Canada), Artist and Professor, Ryerson University, School of Image Arts; GARANCE CHABERT (France), Art Critic and Exhibition Curator, Le Bureau/ (a curatorial collective), Editorial Assistant of the journal Études photographiques; FLORIAN EBNER (Germany), Artist, Director of Museum für Photographie Braunschweig; ANDRÉ HABIB (Canada), Professor of Art History and Film, Université de Montréal; OLIVIER LUGON (Switzerland), Professor of Art History, Lausanne University; and VIVA PACI (Canada), Professor of Film Theory & Visual Studies at École des médias, Université du Québec à Montréal.
Moderated by GAËLLE MOREL, Guest Curator of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal 2009, the colloquium will be divided into six sessions: at 1:35 pm Before the "Painting Format": Large Format Photography of the 1970s by Olivier Lugon; at 2:05 pm The Slide: An Image at the Edge by Nathalie Boulouch; at 2:35 pm Contemporary Figures of the Artist as Iconographer by Garance Chabert; at 3:35 pm Exhibiting: Between Photography and Cinema by André Habib and Viva Paci; at 4:05 pm From the Depths of the Archive to Public View. Interpretation and Installation of Historical Photographs by Florian Ebner; and at 4:35 pm The Disappearance of Darkness: An Artist’s Paradox by Robert Burley.
The colloquium will be followed by an Award Ceremony at the Paul-Desmarais Theatre for the Contact Image People’s Choice Award and the 2009 Dazibao Award. The day’s events will end with a reception at 5:30 pm at the Shaughnessy House of the Canadian Centre for Architecture.
Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal also invites the public to vote for their favourite artist from the 2009 progam. The Contact Image People’s Choice Award will present a prize of $1,500 to the artist with the most votes. To participate, please vote online at Consulter le lien before September 30, 2009.
