Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal invites the public to the launch of its 11th presentation, on Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 pm at Les Ateliers Jean Brillant, a former industrial building in the St-Henri district (3550 St-Jacques St. West). The event launch will be followed by a series of exhibition openings on September 11 and 12, and a guided tour on September 13.

The 11th presentation of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal 2009 will be held from September 10 to October 11. Organized around the theme The Spaces of the Image, developed by French Guest Curator Gaëlle Morel, the event will feature 24 solo exhibitions and public space interventions in a variety of different sites throughout the city. Artists from 13 countries will explore the question of mechanisms and staging in contemporary photography. Several works will be presented for the first time in Canada, including new works created especially for Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal.

Thanks to the generosity of our partners, all of our exhibitions and activities open to the general public will be presented free of charge.

In addition to the opening of the 7 exhibitions at Les Ateliers Jean Brillant, come and meet the Guest Curator, Gaëlle Morel, and many of the participating artists including Luc Courchesne, Alfredo Jaar, Emmanuelle Léonard, Yveline Loiseur, Anne Ramsden, and Pierre Tremblay. Music and festivities will kick off the 2009 event!

Upcoming activities
To compliment the exhibitions an array of activities will be offered during the event (artists’ talks, a program of cultural mediation), and an international colloquium will be held on Friday, October 2 at the Canadian Centre for Architecture. Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal will renew its presentation of awards to artists.

Also titled The Spaces of the Image, the publication accompanying Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal 2009 will be available in bookstores and in several exhibition sites during the event.
